Frequently Asked Questions

Where is my office?

My office is located on Main Street in Leixlip Co. Kildare. All details on how to get to Leixlip by car,bus and train as well as details on parking are on the Contact page.

How long does a session last?

A session usually lasts an hour. An hour I find is a nice length for a session as it allows the client and counsellor to go into depth while reducing the risk of fatigue setting in. I am flexible on session length depending on what suits each individual client's needs. If a client wishes to do a longer session, we would agree this either at the initial consultation or at some point during the counselling process if the need arises.

How much does counselling cost?

My fee is €55 per hour. The initial consultation is free of charge.

How regularly do I need to attend?

Sessions usually take place once a week (at least initially). It is important to attend regularly but not so regularly that fatigue sets in or results diminish. I have found in my experience that once per week is the optimal frequency for a lot of people. Again each person's needs are unique and as such I am open to different attendance frequency. I have clients that have attended fortnightly or monthly at times. This however is something that usually happens as a client is approaching the end of the therapeutic process. Another scenario that can occur occasionally is that a client may wish to attend twice per week if extra support/work needs to be done. Attendance frequency can be discussed at the initial consultation or during the therapeutic process.

How long does the counselling process take?

This question is difficult to answer as each client is different, has different needs and is at a different stage in their lives compared to others. What I recommend is that clients complete six counselling sessions initially after which we check in to see how the process is going for the client and go from there. Some client's achieve what they need to within 10/15/20 sessions and some choose to take longer. Again it is very much based on where the client is at and what they wish to work on.
